Well, from a marketing and copywriting perspective, it’s not very effective.  I’m going to reach out to the owner to offer my talents at writing a new piece.

I was laughing under my breath as I watched the recruitment presentation because I was actually breaking down the video as if it were components of a sales copy letter.

It went something like this:

Headline – the video started with Donald Trump touting the company, so I equated that to an attention grabbing headline

Problem – next it went into these questions like “Do you want financial freedom?”, “Are you tired of working a job?” and the like; I looked at this as being the identification of the problem to be solved

Benefits – next it mentioned the lifestyle that the business opportunity allows you to have, along with all the things you’ll be able to do with all this freedom, etc.  These would be the bullet points in the sales letter

Testimonials – of course next was hearing from people who are already doing the business and seeing them in their luxury cars, on exotic vacations, relaxing in their mansions, etc.  I had to keep from laughing out loud because it was almost like I could see the yellow “Johnson Box” around each of these individual’s as they were talking

Call to Action – they wound it up by telling you to get with the person who invited you to the presentation in order to move forward

So although I had no interest, it was a fascinating (and fun) experience to use my copywriting knowledge to dissect the video unintentionally!

I decided to re-read the book after listening to a teleseminar that Ben Settle did with “Doberman” Dan. (Click here to listen). On the call, Ben mentioned that a mistake many copywriters make is building up these huge libraries of material that they only look at once. He suggested it’s better to have less items, but to read or listen to them 10 or more times.

That’s a sage piece of advice.

And speaking of Ben Settle – I truly believe this guy is a legend in the making when it comes to copywriting. I can say without a doubt that every piece of communication I’ve gotten from Ben has been valuable. He’s actually one of the few people who I look forward to receiving e-mail from. In fact when it comes, I’ll stop whatever I’m doing just to read and dissect his piece.
